To be fair, after doing this you probably wouldn’t notice your original problem anymore. An elderly Chinese woman from Hangzhou ended up in the hospital after swallowing eight live frogs to try to cure her back pain from a herniated disc. After hearing a rumor that this folk remedy could help, she asked relatives to catch some frogs without telling them why. She swallowed five frogs one day and three more the next. Soon after, she started feeling awful stomach pain that got worse over several days.
Doctors ran tests and found that she had been infected with a tapeworm parasite commonly found in people who eat or touch live frogs and snakes. After two weeks in the hospital, she fully recovered. Doctors used her case to warn people about the dangers of folk remedies, noting that many elderly people try similar treatments without discussing them with family members first.
