Grace Davidson, a 36-year-old NHS dietitian from north London, has become the first woman in the UK to give birth after a womb transplant. Grace was diagnosed as a teenager with a rare condition where the uterus is underdeveloped or absent, and in 2023 her 42-year-old sister Amy Purdie donated her uterus to Grace after having two children of her own.
The operation took eight hours, and afterward, Grace underwent fertility treatment. Her daughter Amy Isabel was delivered in a planned cesarean section on February 27th at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London. The baby was named in honor of both her aunt, Amy, and one of the surgeons, Isabel Quiroga, who played a pivotal role in the transplant procedure.
