Scotsman Who Thought He Was Losing His Hearing Had A Lego Block Stuck In His Ear For 20 Years

A man in Scotland thought he was going deaf, but his hearing problems wound up having a weird cause. Darren McConachie had been to the doctor about his hearing loss and was given antibiotics to deal with what the medical staff thought was an ear infection. He went home and woke up in the middle of the night with pressure in the side of his head.

He felt something dislodge and start moving, and then…out popped a wax-covered pink Lego piece. He says, “I hadn’t played with Lego for years, not since I was a wee boy.” By his estimate, the Lego piece was stuck inside his ear for around 20 years. A quick exam by the doctors again showed that he doesn’t have any more 20-year-old toys in his ears, and his hearing’s returned to normal.
