Video games are bad for your eyes? Not so fast. Japanese scientists at Kwansei Gakuin University created a virtual reality game that might actually improve eyesight. The game makes players focus on objects moving at different distances, exercising eye muscles to help with focusing issues. In a six-week study, 10 young adults with mild nearsightedness played the game regularly. Their vision got better, especially for seeing far away, and the improvements lasted after they stopped playing.
The game could help with eye strain from too much screen time, which can cause temporary focusing problems. Unlike regular vision therapy, the VR game is fun and feels like playing, not exercising. The researchers say more studies are needed to confirm the results, but the game shows promise for helping people with mild vision issues. It’s not a cure for serious eye problems, but it could be a new way to support eye health.
