People Are Renting Chickens To Deal With Egg Prices

Egg prices are headed to an all-time high price, so the next obvious thing for egg-lovers to do is get some temporary chickens. A company called Rent the Chicken is letting people rent chickens, feed, and a coop, so they can get their own eggs at home without the long-term commitment of buying their own chickens outright. The interesting part is that the company wasn’t put together to take advantage of the current egg crisis; the company was founded in 2013.

Of course, it might not take long for people to realize that keeping chickens might not be all it’s cracked up to be. As the company says on its website, “Children quickly realize that chicks are not as fun as the Xbox, and parents find out that chickens can not be housebroken.” Packages run from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars for five to six months, with the chickens laying between 16 and 28 eggs per week. That would work out to as much as $37.50 per dozen, so you might just want to stop complaining and go to the store.
