When you think “bleeding edge tech,” you might not think “beer company,” but you might be wrong. Heineken has introduced ‘The Flipper,’ a prototype phone case designed to encourage people to engage more with those around them by minimizing smartphone distractions during social gatherings. The case uses AI-driven voice recognition technology to detect the word “cheers.” When it hears the word, a built-in robotic arm flips the user’s phone face down to help them enjoy themselves without getting distracted.
The initiative addresses the common issue of “phubbing,” where individuals ignore their companions in favor of their smartphones. Swedish inventor and robotics enthusiast Simone Giertz collaborated with Heineken to test ‘The Flipper’ and praised its effectiveness in promoting mindful socializing.
