Utah Police Say They Trust New AI System That Once Said A Person Turned Into A Frog

AI continues to prove that it’s good at a lot of stuff, but maybe not this. Police in Heber City, Utah had to explain why an AI-generated report claimed an officer had turned into a frog…you know, normal police work. The mistake happened because the software picked up audio from “The Princess and the Frog” playing in the background during a call, which apparently confused the software. The department had been testing AI software called Draft One, which uses body camera footage to write police reports and cut down on paperwork. Sgt. Rick Keel said the error taught them how important it is to review and correct these reports. Despite the mix-up, Keel says the tool still saves him six to eight hours a week. The department is also testing a second AI program called Code Four. Critics worry that AI-generated reports could lead to more mistakes and make it harder to hold officers accountable…especially if they change species mid-investigation. Source: Boing Boing
