Hail and heavy rains from what is being referred to as biblical storms in the Aswan region of Egypt have left three people dead and hundreds hospitalized as the storms washed scorpions into homes on Friday. The governor of the region, Ashraf Attia, said at least 503 people were hospitalized after suffering stings from fat-tailed scorpions.
The stings cause breathing difficulties, muscle twitching, and unusual head movements. Scorpions and snakes were sent running by the torrential downpour, causing them to scurry into homes, and it might not be over. Egyptian weather forecasters have said rainfall will continue in the southern part of the country over the next few days.
