The family of Addison Jenkins is seeking justice after discovering an unrecognizable body dressed in his clothes at his viewing. Jenkins, who passed away in February 2023, had chosen Boyd Funeral Home in Camden, New Jersey to handle his arrangements. Upon inspecting the casket, the family was shocked and heartbroken to find another body wearing Jenkins’ items, prompting them to file a lawsuit on Sept. 5, accusing the funeral home of negligence and mishandling human remains.
The family alleges that when they expressed their concerns, the funeral home staff insisted the body was Jenkins, despite obvious differences. They pointed out that specific physical markings, such as a cauliflower ear and foot infection, were missing from the body in the casket. The family requested to see the body again the next day, eventually confirming that the person in the casket was indeed Jenkins, but only after a number of upsetting interactions.
In a statement from their attorney, Michael Shaw, the family described the situation as “disturbing and reprehensible,” accusing the funeral home of gaslighting them after the error. They are now pursuing compensation and seeking accountability for the emotional pain caused by the funeral home’s mishandling.
