Swimmer Claims Athletes Have Found ‘Worms’ In Olympic Village Food

British swimmer Adam Peaty has criticized the food at the Olympic Village in Paris, claiming that athletes have found in their meals. Peaty, a six-time Olympic medalist, explained that the food options weren’t “good enough for the level the athletes are expected to perform.” He mentioned that while the food in Tokyo and Rio was incredible, in Paris, there were not enough protein options and long lines.

“The narrative of sustainability has just been pushed on the athletes,” he said. “I want meat, I need meat to perform and that’s what I eat at home, so why should I change?” Peaty added that plant-based options weren’t suitable for many athletes and that he personally prefers fish, but the fish he was served had worms. A Paris 2024 spokesperson responded, saying they had no information to confirm the worm allegation and that Team Great Britain had not reported any such incidents. The spokesperson emphasized, “We are listening to the athletes and take their feedback very seriously.”

The food quality at the Olympic Village has been a hot topic, with reviews ranging from “decent” to “not adequate.” Simone Biles and her teammate Hezly Rivera expressed their dissatisfaction with the dining hall offerings. However, some athletes, like Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen, have enjoyed the food, especially the chocolate muffins, which he rated an “insane 11/10.”
