Supermassive Black Hole Found In Galaxy 47 Million Light Years Away

A supermassive black hole has been discovered hiding inside a cloud of cosmic dust at the center of a galaxy 47 million light-years from the Earth.

In Chile, detailed images of the dust cloud were taken using the “European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope Interferometer.”

These images from the telescope will help measure the temperature at different points within the cloud and create a map.

These bright phenomena were first spotted in the 1950s, and astronomers have been curious about them ever since. Lead researcher Violeta Gamez Rosas says, “Our results should lead to a better understanding of the inner workings of these AGNs ( holes in the galaxy).”
