Here’s a pretty rock-solid way to find out who your friends are. A 74-year-old man in India faked his death and staged a mock funeral to see who would attend. Mohan Lal, a former Air Force veteran from the village of Konchi in Bihar state, wanted to see how many people cared about him. He asked some relatives to spread the word about his passing and had others take him to the crematorium on a decorated bier to make it believable.
Hundreds of residents rushed to join the mourning ceremony, which pleased Mohan and reassured him that the community respected him. The shocking moment came when Mohan got up from his casket during the funeral. When asked why he went through the trouble, Mohan said he wanted to witness people carrying his bier and see how much respect and affection people would give him. To make locals forgive him for the mock funeral, Mohan organized a big feast for everyone afterward.
