There’s a treatment method called “immersion therapy,” where you’re exposed to whatever is causing you mental distress to help you get used to it. Aaron Phoenix believed it was effective, so he built a “tarantula cave” in his house with over 1-thousand spiders in it. With the slogan “Changing the way people see spiders…eight legs at a time,” Phoenix travels around England to help them overcome their fear of spiders.
Starting his collection was, ironically enough, the advice of his doctors, who told him a hobby could help his mental health after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He also hosts children’s birthday parties with his collection, the largest of which he says is the size of a dinner plate.
