Sooner or later, the honeymoon ends after you get married, but it’s a safe bet it came to a screeching halt for Jeremy Desmet and Maite Beernaert when they returned from their honeymoon to their house in West Flanders, Belgium, and found that the entire house had been enclosed with thousands of beer crates. It’s a Belgian tradition to give a newlywed couple a “surprise” gift, and their friends decided the best thing to do was to barricade their house with around 2,000 beer crates.
And yes, the crates covered the entire outside of the house, leaving them no way to get inside until they were moved. Clement Mahieu, the leader of the group who put up the crates, said, “Maybe they can pitch a tent in the garden.” It’s more of a gift than it sounds; the happy couple can now return the crates and collect the almost $4,500 deposit on them.
