Problems with Microsoft are no longer limited to Earth. The Artemis II crew launched on Wednesday on NASA’s first moon mission in more than 50 years, but it didn’t take long for some very earthly problems to pop up. Shortly after launch, Commander Reid Wiseman called Mission Control to report that his Microsoft Surface tablet was running two copies of Outlook…and neither one worked. NASA then remotely connected to fix the issue.
The crew also dealt with a jammed toilet fan early in the flight, though that was fixed within a few hours. The primary systems on the Orion spacecraft use specialized hardware, but crew members use regular Windows devices for communication and scheduling. The astronauts were set to head for the moon after a key engine burn.
