NOAA Has Ranked The Groundhogs By How Accurately They Predict Spring

With Groundhog Day this weekend, it’s time to get the official word on just how accurate your favorite chubby ground mammal is when it comes to predicting the weather. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration studied the predictions of all of the groundhogs around the country who have been predicting when spring is coming for at least 20-years.

The most accurate? Staten Island Chuck, who’s right 85-percent of the time. And what about the biggest name in the biz, Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil? He wound up at number 17 on the list, only having predicted the weather accurately 35-percent of the time.
