A lot of unlikely things are cleared to happen now that pigs have flown. A farmer in China’s Sichuan province came up with what he thought was a clever idea: skip the trucks and use a drone to fly his pigs to the slaughterhouse. On its first flight, the drone got tangled in high-voltage power lines, leaving the pig dangling in the air for hours and cutting electricity to the entire village.
It took 12 workers more than 10 hours to fix the damage, which cost about $1,400. The farmer blamed poor visibility, but investigators found he was flying in a no-fly zone and had overloaded the drone, which isn’t really surprising since there was an entire pig dangling from it. He said the mountainous terrain makes transporting pigs by vehicle really difficult, and Chinese media reports that agricultural drones are increasingly being used for this purpose in rural areas.
