Update: “Joe Dirt” Tribute Wins Pennsylvania Farm Show Mullet Competition

The Pennsylvania Farm Show hosted its annual mullet contest Monday in Harrisburg, drawing about 150 competitors and more than a thousand spectators. The event celebrates the short-in-the-front, long-in-the-back hairstyle once popular with hockey players and hair metal bands. Categories included children under 5, throwback mullets, and the patriotic Flow of Freedom Award.

The top prize, a Corvette rear bumper trophy, went to 10-year-old Drew Fleschut of Dallas, Pennsylvania, who dressed as the movie character Joe Dirt and carried a mop as a prop. Ben Barley, 7, of Red Lion, showed up two hours early wearing a shirt that said “MULLET LIFE.” Kyle Wertman, 43, said he was inspired by watching old wrestling footage of Hacksaw Jim Duggan. The contest, now in its third year, is one of the few Farm Show events open to people from outside the state.
