A hungry bear made itself right at home in Kentucky, breaking into a woman’s house to feast on her leftover KFC. Kendra North said the bear got into her Harlan County home early Thursday morning while she slept. A heavy sleeper, she never heard a thing, but her sister next door did. Her sister called repeatedly around 5 a.m., and when North finally answered, her sister told her a bear had just walked out of the house, come down the steps, and looked her dead in the eyes.
The bear shattered North’s thick glass table, a crash so loud her sister first thought it was a car wreck; North believes the KFC she left out on the table lured the animal in. Kentucky’s bear program coordinator said residents can make homes less appealing by securing pet food, garbage, and grills, noting the state’s bear population has grown in recent decades as forests recovered. North summed up the lesson simply: do not leave your leftover KFC on the table, and make sure the door is shut tight.
