A team of researchers at the University of Exeter have developed artificial intelligence that can predict if someone will develop dementia within two years with 92% accuracy. The team used data from over 15k patients to train the system to recognize patterns in health data.
Between 2005 and 2015, one in 10 attendees at a memory clinic was diagnosed with dementia, but researchers found that around eight percent of those diagnoses were wrong. The team plans follow-up studies to see if the AI can be used in clinics for diagnosis, treatment, and care.
