An unnamed 65-year-old woman in Japan has been scammed out of around $30k by a man who claimed to be talking to her over Instagram from the International Space Station. Shortly after they started talking, the man told her he was in love with her and wanted to marry her, but there was a problem.
He said he needed money to cover the cost of a rocket and landing fees to return to Earth so that he could join her in Japan and marry her. The woman eventually grew suspicious of him and turned the case over to the police, who are currently investigating it as a romance scam.
