Wild Elephant Kills Four Members Of Nepalese Family Over 12 Years

A Nepalese man has lost four family members to the same wild elephant over the span of more than a decade. In 2012, Shanichara Bote lost both his mother and father in a brutal elephant attack in the Madi area of Nepal. Fearing more attacks, he sold what he had and moved his family across the Rapti river to the Jagatpur region, believing the distance would keep them safe. But the same elephant found them again. On Sunday, Shanichara reported to police that the animal had raided his home and killed his 25-year-old daughter-in-law and 4-year-old grandson.

The elephant, known as Dhurbe, has a grim reputation among conservationists, believed to have killed at least 25 people over 23 years in and around Chitwan National Park. Officials track him with a satellite collar, and experts say his aggression may stem from being driven out of his herd as a young male, pushing him into human settlements to forage.
