A woman in Uganda has given birth to twins…at the age of 70 years old. Safina Namukwaya delivered a boy and a girl via cesarean after undergoing IVF treatment, though it’s unclear whether she used a donor egg or one of her own that was frozen. Namukwaya, who is one of the oldest women to give birth, told reporters it’s a “miracle.”
The new mom told Uganda’s Daily Monitor newspaper that her pregnancy had been difficult as her partner abandoned her when he realized she was going to have twins, adding, “Men don’t like to be told that you are carrying more than one child.” This is Safina’s second delivery in three years, after giving birth to a baby girl in 2020. Doctors are celebrating this latest delivery, saying, “This story isn’t just about medical success; it’s about the strength and resilience of the human spirit.”
