Virginia Power Outage Blamed On Snake

A power outage that left about 11,700 customers in Virginia without electricity was caused by a snake, according to utility company officials. Dominion Energy confirmed that the outage affected customers in Newport News, including Christopher Newport University, on Saturday night.

Crews found that the snake had slithered into a high-voltage area and made contact with a transformer. Power was restored to all customers within an hour and a half. The specific type of snake involved in the incident was not identified.
