This is either impressive or ridiculous. A clever tech person has figured out how to turn a dead disposable vape into a working website, showing how much technology gets thrown away every day. The creator, BogdanTheGeek, used the microcontroller from an old vape to host a website at ewaste.fka.wtf that actually works pretty well. These disposable vapes have surprising amounts of tech inside them, including screens, USB-C ports, and rechargeable batteries, which makes it strange to call them “disposable.” The tiny computer inside has just 24 MHz of processing power and only 3 kilobytes of memory, but that’s enough to run a basic website.
At first, pages took over 20 seconds to load because the system was processing data one character at a time, but after some tweaks, full pages now load in about 160 milliseconds. The project involved using old internet protocols and some creative programming to get everything working. It’s meant to show people that these “disposable” devices contain valuable parts that shouldn’t just be thrown in the trash, and maybe inspire others to find creative uses for electronic waste.
