18-year-old Dylan Lombard of Glasgow, Scotland, suffers from a genetic disorder called Mandibular Hypoplasia, which means his body doesn’t store fat beneath the skin. The condition is extremely rare; Lombard is one of only 13 people on Earth affected by the condition.
Symptoms didn’t begin to appear until he was 18 months old, and it took another 10 years before doctors were able to diagnose his condition. Other symptoms of MDP include deafness, a small lower jaw and ears, and a tightening of the skin. Lombard says people have made fun of him his entire life, but he says, “I surround myself with those who support me and love me for who I am which is the best feeling in the world.”
