Pizza Hut Files Formal Complaint Over New Counterfeit Location In Pakistan Opened By Country’s Defense Minister

If you’re going into counterfeiting, would you pick a restaurant to fake? Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif became a laughingstock after inaugurating what turned out to be a fake Pizza Hut in Sialkot. Photos and videos showed Asif cutting a ribbon at the restaurant, which featured the chain’s familiar red roof logo and branding. Hours later, Pizza Hut Pakistan issued a statement calling it an “unauthorized outlet falsely using the Pizza Hut name.”

The company said the restaurant has no connection to Pizza Hut Pakistan or its parent company Yum! Brands and does not follow their recipes, quality standards, or food safety protocols. Pizza Hut Pakistan currently operates only 16 authorized outlets nationwide, all in Lahore and Islamabad. Now the Defense Minister’s getting mocked for the attempt to fake the entire thing, and Pizza Hut has filed a formal complaint over the trademark misuse.
