People in China are buying small bags of soil that were supposedly collected from the premises of major banks, including from the potted plants inside the buildings, believing these “bank soils” can attract wealth and dispel negative energy. Online vendors offer these bags for up to $120 with some claiming a “99.999 percent success rate in generating wealth.” To assure buyers of authenticity, some sellers make videos showing them collecting the soil from banks like the Bank of China and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
To be clear, people are spending over a hundred dollars for a small bag of dirt they believe will bring money to them, and the demand for bank soil continues to grow. Some buyers, including business owners, hope that possessing such soil will enhance their financial success. In response to the trend, experts are recommending financial planning instead of bank soil.
