A 7-foot ostrich brought traffic to a standstill when it broke free and made its way onto a busy road in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, around noon on Tuesday. The ostrich escaped from a trailer and stood right in the middle of a four-lane thoroughfare, causing many people to stop and get out of their cars. Some people even offered the bird food to try and get it off the road.
The bird’s owner, who was transporting several other ostriches, quickly recaptured the escapee and secured it back in the trailer. According to Sioux Falls Animal Control Officer Thomas Rhoades, the ostrich was unharmed and returned to its owner without any need for further intervention. Details on the bird’s final destination or how long it was loose remain unclear.
