Norwegian soccer fans are bringing big Viking energy to Boston as their country plays in the World Cup for the first time in 28 years. A video taken at Boston’s South Station shows dozens of Norway fans riding up an escalator while doing a synchronized “Viking row,” with some wearing Viking helmets and wrapped in Norwegian flags. The crowd chanted “Hoo! Hoo!” as they moved their arms like a Viking longship crew rowing together.
A Boston journalist named Jeremy Siegel posted the clip and said it was unlike anything he had ever seen. People online loved it, with one calling it the most Norwegian thing they had ever watched, while others got nervous and wondered how the flags and capes didn’t get caught in the escalator. Boston has also welcomed Scottish fans, who marched to Fenway Park after their team beat Haiti 1-0.
