The grocery chains were one thing, but gouging the military? That’s another. The suit accused Hillandale of serious running up of prices at the commissaries at Fort Hamilton, Fort Drum and West Point. How bad are we talking? James claimed Hillandale charged 84-cents per carton of eggs in January, but $3.15 a carton in April.
Price gouging during a pandemic is a horrid idea, but Hillandale Farms is paying the price for it – to the tune of 100-thousand cartons of free eggs. Of course, they’re denying any wrongdoing, but New York food banks are still going to benefit from the settlement. Something to ‘cockadoodledoo’ about for sure.
