The key to a happy marriage is talking less, apparently. British businessman James Dooley says a few unusual rules help him protect his marriage while running a business empire worth about $13-million a year. Dooley and his wife, Kerri, have been together for 16 years, but they generally do not talk during his workday because he wants to stay fully focused. At 3 p.m., he switches off work until 7 p.m. so he can spend time with their three young children.
He also says he does not buy Kerri traditional gifts such as jewelry or designer items, preferring family experiences and memories instead. Their bigger purchases have included a holiday lodge in Wales, a jet ski and racehorses. Dooley says Kerri supports his drive but also challenges some of his business ideas when she thinks he is chasing too many opportunities.
