A 90-year-old Michigan English teacher has been awarded a Guinness World Record for the longest career as a female language teacher. Beverly Hannett-Price, who teaches at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, has spent 67 years in the classroom since starting in 1958. She received her certificate at a surprise assembly Monday that included speeches from former students. Among them was Courtney B. Vance, the Tony and Emmy-winning actor who recently got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Actor Robin Williams and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer also count among her former pupils. Vance credited Hannett-Price with teaching him how to write and put thoughts together, saying they’ve stayed in touch over the years. Guinness verified her record based on uninterrupted classroom instruction across multiple schools. The best part? The 90-year-old teacher says she has no plans to retire.
