A man says he’s one of thousands of customers that have lost a lot of money after Gerald ‘Gerry’ Cotton died at the age of 30. Tong Zou says he trusted Canada’s largest cryptocurrency exchange with $500k, but when Cotton died during his honeymoon in India, everyone’s money was lost because only Cotton knew the password.
Roughly 76k investors lost the money they had invested, but it may not be as simple as it sounds. Some people don’t believe Cotton actually died from ‘an acute stomachache,’ and the now-closed company originally blamed the inaccessible money on a legal issue. The story is being told in a new Netflix documentary, “Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King.”
