A man died after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, England, on Saturday. Reports say that, at one point, the man started to chastise the tiger after one of the first times it bit him. Police received reports of the incident at 1:35 p.m., and emergency crews rushed to the park, but despite efforts to save him, the man died at the scene. Visitors were cleared from the park, which closed for the weekend.
Police said the tiger stayed inside its enclosure, and there was no wider danger to the public. The animal, named Altai, was not hurt, and park officials say he will not be put down because of the attack. The man’s family has been told, and officers are helping them. Park officials also said staff members were deeply shaken by what happened and are getting support.
