Man Builds AI-Powered Water Gun Turret To Keep Pigeons Off His Balcony

A tech-savvy Reddit user has gone viral for building a DIY autonomous water gun turret that detects pigeons landing on his balcony and blasts them with water, all without any human involvement. The system uses a USB camera, an open-vocabulary AI object detection model, two servo motors, and a battery-powered electric water gun mounted on an Orange Pi mini-computer.

When the camera spots a pigeon, the neural network confirms the target, the servo motors swivel the gun into position, and the water fires automatically, sending the bird packing. A short demo video showing the turret in action spread quickly on social media, with many viewers saying they would buy one immediately. The creator hasn’t mentioned commercial plans, though the model can reportedly be trained to recognize other animals too. No word on if it can be trained to recognize exes.
