The Sisterhood of the Flaming Cake has now been formed. A New Orleans-area baker named Julie Fradella went viral this week after setting a $600 custom birthday cake on fire when the woman who ordered it found out, on the same day she was supposed to pick it up, that the birthday boy had been cheating on her. The client had commissioned the giant almond cake, which was meant to serve 75 people, for her boyfriend, but when she found out about the cheating she called Fradella and told her the situation.
The client offered $100 extra to have the cake smashed, but Fradella had a better idea. She filmed a message to the birthday boy by name, told him “cheaters, Jonathan, we don’t like cheaters,” and the cake erupted in flames behind her. The video went viral on Instagram, reaching millions of views. Fradella said she’s since picked up new clients as a result, which she described as the only kind of birthday surprise she needed. You can see the video of the burning cake to the right.
