Ever fire up the grill and realize there is no one around to share a cold beer with? In Russia, you can now just rent someone. A quirky new service has taken off on classified ad sites, where strangers offer themselves as barbecue companions for anywhere from about $13 to $65 a day. One man from Moscow advertised that he will help organize barbecues and camping trips, keep you company, and grill the meat, with jokes and anecdotes thrown in for free.
Depending on the price, these companions will fire up the grill, cook, pitch a tent, and even scout a good spot and handle the grocery run, as long as you cover the bill. The service is offered only to men, and the ads are upfront that this is strictly paid work, with no lasting friendship expected. If you want more time together, you pay again. It is most popular in the Moscow, Krasnodar Krai, and Nizhny Novgorod regions.
