Humanoid Robots At Iranian Tech Expo Were Just Two People In Unconvincing Outfits

“Fake it ‘til you make it” isn’t always the best plan. A pair of “advanced humanoid robots” at a tech expo in Iran turned out to be just people in cheesy costumes. The fakes were shown at the Kish Inox Tech Expo, wearing silly outfits covered in binary code. High-definition videos quickly exposed the truth, showing obvious human features like acne scars, blinking, and breathing. One of the robots, a woman calling herself “Miss Data,” told visitors she lived in “blockchain space.”

When officials were asked about the embarrassing display, a senior Iranian science official said a private company was responsible and that the government had nothing to do with it. This isn’t the first time fake robots have shown up at tech events, but these were especially bad compared to more convincing fakes used at similar shows in China.
