They called police and deputies determined the remains were human. Identification and cause of death are pending an autopsy. Officials say the property owner is cooperating.
But in a strange twist, just 48 hours after the body was found in the freezer, police say the house burned down to the ground in a fire. Orangeburg County firefighters say the early Tuesday blaze at the home in Norway is considered suspicious, but a cause has not been determined.
