Former Royal Butler Says You Must Eat A Burger With A Fork And Knife

Grant Harrold, a former royal butler to King Charles III, insists the proper way to eat a hamburger is with a fork and knife, especially in formal settings. “Using a knife and fork brings a genuine sense of refinement to the culinary experience,” Harrold told “The Telegraph,” adding that this was common practice among royals during his time at Buckingham Palace. He emphasized that this etiquette applies at royal and high-end events where dining protocols are more structured.

However, etiquette expert Rosalinda Randall pointed out that this rule doesn’t always apply. “Foods like pizza, tacos, and burgers are generally eaten with our hands during casual occasions,” she explained, adding that cutlery might be practical at a fine dining establishment, during a job interview, or on a date to avoid mess and maintain conversation. Randall advised that in formal situations, guests should follow their host’s lead. “It is polite to follow their lead,” she said, ensuring diners can navigate any occasion with ease.
