A Kansas City family was shocked to learn they were no longer the homeowners of their property.
The Peak family was trying to sell their parents’ home and realized they could not go through with the sale because a title company discovered the house had already been sold to someone else.
A man the family had never met filed and forged a deed claiming he had bought the home from them.
The name listed on the deed was Ovonjae Tatium, and Tatium was found guilty of doing the same thing with five other homes the same day. Missouri Legislature says stealing a home is surprisingly easy in Missouri. As a result, several years ago, this crime was made a felony.
