Drinkers Over 60 May Recover Better After Surgery

A researcher at University Hospital Bonn in Germany says that people age 60 and over that consume a “potentially unhealthy amount” of alcohol have a better quality of life and may recover from surgery better than teetotallers.

Heavy drinkers among the 628 patients that participated in the study reported significantly better mobility, self-care, and fewer problems with daily activities after surgery. The findings have been questioned by other academics, but the researchers say the topic warrants further investigation.
