Doctors in Russia successfully removed a large glass jar from a man’s bowel after a risky surgery. The man had inserted the pint-sized glass during a sexual act, which could have led to severe bleeding or fatal organ damage if the jar shattered inside him.
X-ray images revealed the jar had moved high into his bowel. Despite the dangers, doctors managed to remove it in full, along with a condom and lubricant, without breaking the glass. Hospital spokesperson Alexey Nikonov emphasized, “Doctors are not the morality police,” urging patients not to hesitate to seek medical help in such situations.
Official data shows that hundreds of similar cases occur annually. The National Health Service reported 514 procedures for “manual removal of foreign body from rectum” between April 2021 and March 2022. Experts warn that inserting objects into the body can lead to serious risks, including puncturing the bowel and death, and it’s a bit disturbing they have to give that warning in the first place.
