Denmark Zoo Asking People To Donate Their Small Pets As Food For Captive Predators

This zoo wants you to help out in their soup kitchen…sort of. A zoo in Denmark is asking people to donate their small pets to feed the predators that live there. Aalborg Zoo says it wants to copy the natural food chain to help with “animal welfare and professional integrity.” The zoo promises that donated pets like guinea pigs, rabbits, and chickens will be “gently euthanized” by trained staff before being used as food. The zoo posted on Facebook saying people with healthy animals they need to give away can donate them instead of finding new homes.

They explained that this way “nothing goes to waste” and it helps make sure their predators get natural behavior, nutrition, and well-being. The post includes a picture of a wildcat with its mouth open showing its teeth. The zoo also said they’re interested in getting horses donated. They didn’t list any other types of pets or animals they would accept as donations, and as one would expect, the reaction’s a bit…mixed, to say the least.
