A deformed 70-year-old turtle named “Mr. Bubbles,” was given a new lease on life at “Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons” in Jamesport, NY. Bubbles has gone viral for his very unusual duck-like look. He was purchased by a grandmother in 1954 and had been fed an improper diet, resulting in deformities causing him to grow a “beak.” When he arrived at the rescue, he couldn’t eat, drink, or walk on his own and had severe anemia.
Staff treated Bubbles by trimming his overgrown beak and nails, administering medications, and providing physical therapy. “Nearly three months later, Bubbles is not only no longer in pain but is eating and drinking on his own,” said Karen Testa, executive director of the rescue. Although he can’t return to the wild, he now has a forever home at the sanctuary, where over 200 injured turtles are cared for.
