Chinese Workers Lay 1.5-Miles Of New Asphalt In Six Hours To Fix Road

Road workers in Beijing, China, pulled off an amazing feat by fixing a 1.5-mile stretch of the Fourth Ring Road in just six hours. That’s not a typo; they fixed an entire road in a quarter of a day. The crew laid 8,000 tons of asphalt overnight, finishing the job before morning commuters woke up. Instead of closing down lanes for days or weeks like most cities would, Chinese officials decided to do the whole thing in one night to avoid causing traffic jams.

This kind of super-fast construction is often called “China Speed” in the building world, and the country has a history of this sort of thing. A few years ago, a Chinese company put up a 10-story apartment building in less than 29 hours.
