Children’s Hospital Refuses $520k Donation Because It Came From A Horse Racing Trainer

The Starship Children’s Hospital in New Zealand has refused a $520k donation from horse racing giant Mark Chittick, saying it doesn’t take money linked to gambling. Chittick was trying to donate part of his $10M winnings from races in Sydney.

“I couldn’t believe it, and now that is $520k which will never come to New Zealand and help Kiwi kids,” Chittick told the NZ Herald. The foundation issued a statement on Wednesday saying that the offer was received at 3 p.m. and they had to make a quick decision before the end of the day. “If we had more time, the decision may well have been very different.”
