Brain Implant Gives Paralyzed Man Ability To ‘Speak’ With His Mind

Technology continues to advance, and now scientists have revealed the results of a study where a man in his mid-30s who suffered a brain stem stroke was able to “talk” thanks to a brain implant. The technology translates signals from his brain to his vocal cords and puts them on a screen as text.

It’s not speaking, but it’s closer than the test subject has been in over a decade. The device decoded up to 18 words per minute with up to 93% accuracy. Two Harvard neurologists have called the study a “pioneering demonstration,” and say the implant could potentially help people with cerebral palsy, stroke, or other disorders to speak again.
