A blind man who drove 150 miles at night while drunk has received a suspended prison sentence in England. Fifty-year-old Anthony Hall took his partner’s car without permission after the couple had shared four bottles of wine, then drove from Huddersfield toward Scotland. Police stopped him on the M6 near Carlisle after seeing the car weaving between lanes and onto the shoulder.
Hall, who has been blind for about two years and has never had a driver’s license, told officers he could still see some light and had followed the tail lights of large trucks to guide himself. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, drunk driving, taking a car without consent and driving without a license or insurance. Hall received 36 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, plus rehabilitation requirements, alcohol monitoring and a 12-month driving ban.
